"Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady until sunset." Exodus 17:12

Reservation Ministries Staff
Zane and Danielle Martens
Zane
and Danielle Martens
were married in June of 2006. For four years, they participated in the campus
ministry at Purdue University, and graduated in May, 2007. While preparing to
graduate and enter the work force, Zane and Danielle both felt that God had other plans for
their
lives, including full-time ministry with their degrees. Upon visiting
Arizona Reservation Ministries and meeting the ARM staff in March of 2007, it
was clear that the Lord could use them and their degrees to help this ministry
reach the natives of the San Carlos Apache Nation. Zane's degree in Building Construction
Management and experience with Habitat for Humanity prepared him for leading
workgroups in the construction of homes for those on the reservation. Danielle's
degree in Interior Design prepared her to design and create blueprints for ARM.
They are both excited about the future as they begin to coordinate the visiting
volunteers that will help build critical-need housing on the San Carlos Apache
Reservation. In addition to these tasks, Zane is already organizing all of ARM's
tools and completing other construction projects as ARM also assists godly
churches on the Reservation with their facility needs. Both Zane and Danielle
are participating in the mobile ministries of ARM during the weeks there are no
groups visiting. Zane has become the "big guy" that the kids grab to play kick
ball, while Danielle is forming relationships with young girls by twirling a
jump rope, or simply sharing a quiet moment. As new members of a small, but
growing ARM staff, the Martens are excited about the many ways the Lord will use
them to
provide "God's ARMs around the Reservation!"
Danielle
I grew up in rural Indiana. While all the other children around me wanted to be nurses and firefighters, I wanted to be a missionary. As I grew, I developed an interest in art and design, and decided to go to Purdue University for Interior Design. Not knowing what God had in store for me, I knew that I wanted to find a way in which I could use my degree for God and to better the lives of those less fortunate. Arizona Reservation Ministries gave me a place where I could do exactly that.
Zane
Growing up in a small Mennonite community, I was introduced to the mission field very early in life. I can remember accepting Christ when a missionary couple came to my church to share the gospel and share about their lives as missionaries. As I grew, I tried to do everything in a way that would honor God. Upon entering college, I had no idea what God had in store for me, but I was always seeking His will in my life. I heard a sermon with the them "God's call on your life is where your passion and the world's need collide." It finally hit me that God wanted to use my passion to build homes on the mission field.
